PostSubject: Yorkie's favourite food???   Sat Jun 27, 2009 2:44 pm

I am desperately looking for advice. My little girl Chloé got spoiled
by her dad (He gave her food off his plate) Now she doesn't want
to eat her RC or her home cooking!!!

Can anybody tell me what is your yorkie's favorite food, so I can
maybe try and introduce that to Chloé. I have tried everything!
When I am going to work in the morning I leave her a bowl of food
and when I arrive back at 14hoo she hasn't touched her food and
that worries me. I then tried to feed her with a soon, then she
will sometimes just eat a bite or two.....

She loves bananas but surely cannot live on it!!!

I know hubby did wrong in feeding her (I wasn't there) off his
plate but I need to find a feeding solution quick!

Somebody told me today to try to cook her ostrich mince
with potatoes, carrots, beans and brown rice - all in one pot
and then mash everything together. I cooked that this afternoon.
She is sleeping at the moment so when she wakes I will try that....

Any suggestions will help me so much....

Thanx guys Crying or Very sad

We create feeding problems in our dogs...and our kids...by overreacting.

Calm down. The dog will not die if she misses a few meals. The greatest impetus to eating is hunger and if the hunger is sufficient, they will eat whatever is in front of them, whether it is kibble or cooked food.

This is one of those "harden your heart" times. Put food down...leave her alone with the food. If she doesn't eat, don't worry about it. She will eat when she is hungry enough if you don't take the edge off her appetite with something else.

I wouldn't even start to worry until she's well into her fourth day without eating.

Just make sure she has clean water and change the kibble daily. If you are giving her cooked food, remove it after 15 minutes and refrigerate it, then heat it up a little when it is meal time again.

Above all, do not make a bad situation worse by teaching her that she can control you by refusing to eat. YOU create an eating disorder that way.

Thanx Sweetviolet, will def. try that. Good advice!

Chloé is 4.5 months old, and we never had a Yorkie before,
so all this is new to me, but so we learn!!!

I am sure she will eat when she is hungry enough!
I cooked her ostrich mince and she had a little bit of it.
She is sleeping now, will try giving her the mince again tom. morning. Smile

Thanx again!

You're welcome.

Puddin just turned 6 months and she will eat just about anything. We went a couple of days without eating much when she had her dental surgery, but she's back to normal. She has preferences, of course...she'd rather have cooked foods than kibble...but if I don't give her anything else, she eats her kibble.

Make sure you aren't taking the edge off her hunger with treats and if she still isn't eating after 4 days, it is time to see the vet. At her age I don't think you have to worry about hypogylcaemia but if she does have an attack of it, some honey on her gums will bring her out of it.

But, just as your husband taught her that people food is yummy by feeding her off the plate, you can teach her that if she holds out long enough, you will place an array of delicacies out for her to sample. Or you can teach her that her food comes in dog bowls!

How old is that picture in your avatar? She sure is cute!

Thank you, she is our baby and we love her to bits!
The photo was taken 1 month ago by a pet photographer.
I will post a new one soon...

This morning I gave her cooked food in her bowl, but she
refused it, so (as you said) I took the bowl away. She looks
kind of depress now and is sleeping on the couch. Will try
presenting the food again at lunch time and see how it goes....

Last night my daughter (Nadine) visited me with Prince Hector
and they played the whole evening. At dinner time I presented her
cooked food and Prince Hector saw the opportunity and started
gobbling it down, so she followed and ate quit a bit (I think just
because she saw Prince Hector eating)L.o.l......

Puddin is also SO cute, She has got the cutest of cutest face. I
saw all her pics on your blog, she is so adorable xx
