| That pic of Bella is SOOO cute!
If you get any info, please post it here. I just shelled out R675 to have five baby teeth removed from Puddin's mouth and it would have been nice to have had a little help from a medical aid! |

| Thanks Dawn,
I dont really have time to research at the moment but these are the 2 websites I have come up with: http://www.medipetsa.co.za and www.petsure.co.za
I would preferably like to find a medical aid for animals and not a insurance, I think the above is an insurance type thing!
Let me know what you think.

| I know this is a very old post, but I use pet sure for Lola. its around R125 a month and they cover most things except for vaccinations and elective surgeries. I find it worth it in case of them being very ill or in an accident where the costs will be so expensive. Id hate to have to make a decision to end my babies life because I dont have the funds to pay for the treatment. Lola being on the medical aid just puts my mind at ease :-) |

| It's a good idea if you only have 1 or 2...I have 4 and at R125/mo...that's R500, more than most of our vet visits cost! And that comes to R6000/yr...more than we've paid even for cancer surgeries for our old Foxy.
But I agree, if you only have one or two, especially if you don't ordinarily keep enough cash on hand to pay for a surgery or something, then this is a very smart thing to do. |

| Taylor is on medical aid - i had the same idea about "in case" something happens one day. Just a few days ago i thought about cutting costs and taking her off but that's when something goes wrong!
I use Medipet and am yet to claim but i heard good reports. However sometimes it's wise to read the fine print! For example i thought they covered kennel fees so i tried to use it when i needed to go away for a week and i was told it's only if the owner can prove they are completely unable to look after the dog due to their own health reasons etc.
They also dont cover the teeth cleaning (which would really help!), pregnancy and c-sections, spaying, neutering and innoculations. im sure if they did then every breeder would be a member in case their dog needed anything during pregnancy so i can understand that, but the teeth and innoculations and spay and neuter really is what most people cant afford.
I never put Trigger on it because he has never had a moments health problems so far. I know anything could happen and i feel happy knowing i have the cover for her but that money could be saved and used for when there is a problem so im in 2 minds...mainly because I know i would never save it each month as i intend doing! |

| I think it just depends on what you can afford at the time. I knew what petsure didnt include before I put her on. And if its just for my little Lola then it is affordable for now. The main reason I put her on is this: Just before I got Lola, my boyfriends lab was run over. her leg was so badly damaged, crushed ankle and hip, ligaments completely torn from bone and muscle, skin grafts needed etc. It was quite horrific. Her medical bill after all of that was quoted at R30 000. The family (luckily quite wealthy) would have paid that for their dog. It had a very sad ending where their dogs heart packed up on the morning of his operation and she died from that before they could even operate. I am currently an au pair while I study teaching part time. There is no way I would ever be able to afford that R30 000 any time soon. This type of accident is covered by petsure and even though I cant afford that big sum, I can afford the R125 p/m for now. I pray every day that it will never come to that and Ill never need to claim for something like that. I recently claimed for Lola's vet visit and medicine because she had a tummy bug the poor thing. I only have Lola for now so Im greatful I am in the position to afford the medical aid. some people cant. maybe if I have more one day Ill need to look at it again, because as sweetviolet says R500 p/m does get a bit much. |

| Hi I think with Petsure you can add the option to cover the vaccinations etc. for about R40 a month extra. I think you have to pay the vet first for all costs & then claim from the insurance. If you know your vet I'm sure he won't mind waiting a few days for you to pay the bill. I am also thinking of getting this for Merlot but from Petsure because of the added vaccination option. |
