 | Subject: My baby is on heat!!! Fri May 20, 2011 1:19 pm | |
| Hallo everybody. My baby of 2 years came on heat yesterday for her 3rd time. We are planning to fix her by June, when she need to go for her injections etc. Is there any way that we can keep her comfy for the couple of weeks following.... She is wearing pants with the little pads in but she HATES them. She is very moody, is crying and dont want to eat her kibble but ask for treats all the time!! She seems very irretated. Isnt there some medicine that we can give her to make her flow any less? Until now we where in two minds but made a final decission to fix her. |

| I dont know of any medicine to make the flow less - and every dog is different with how heavy their heat is. I suggest you put up with her moods (as women we all go through it!) and make her as comfy as possible. I find my girl to be very clingy during her heat and also eat less than normal. I personally believe they dont understand what is going on and perhaps feel a little under the weather as well. Some extra love and attention and in 3 weeks it WILL be over and she can return to normal. If you dont have any males around im sure it will be ok. Just keep a beady eye on her! Good luck with the spaying, let us know how it goes |

| Hi Leandie,
I also just make sure that Ciara is comfy and warm. I dont know what else to give her, but that seemed to help until now. We are also still going to spay her this year.
Good luck!!! |

| The real problem is actually at night, when she is wearing her panty. Sometimes she makes a wee-wee during the night on her newspapers. So every time she gets off the bed, I duck out of bed, thinking she maybe wants to wee-wee, and with the panty on, she will not be able to. So then I am out of bed, and pulling her panty of, and then she just looks at me with an expression I cant even describe..... Then I will wait and put her on the newspaper to wee, and 90 % if the time she wants to go bact to bed, and then it is on with the panty again.... Do you also experience this? Obviously she needs to have her panty on at night, but that leaves me to be extremely tired in the morning |

| Ciara only had the bleeding with her first heat and we also got her the panty, which she hated of course!!!! We also had those drills and scares and we also got that looks from her With her other heats she does not seem to bleed like the first one. I constantly check her, but there is nothing. The only signs that she is on heat is her mood swings and the little groans that she makes. I hope this doe not mean that anything is wrong with her. But we are also having he sterilized this year so I hope they dont find anything wrong with her |

| Chloé also has the mood swings and the little groans PLUS the bleeding. She hates the panty so we only put it on at night time (after we have taken her outside to make her last wee wee) During the day we do not put the panty on, it upsets her too much. My couches and bed is covered with little blankets.... My house looks soooo untidy now, cant wait for the following 2 weeks to pass. Also she isnt eating too well now.... Just knibbeling on her food.. But I make sure she does take her vitiman / mineral tablets each day... I feel so sorry for her, being a women myself... Also there is alot of male attraction around. The males in the complex litterly sits in front of our security door and cries for her!! Luckily hubby is there to keep an eye on her! |

| Ag shame!!! I also feel sorry for Ciara when its that time for her. I have a small waterbottle that I got in a magazine once and I wrap that in a blankie and put it at her back. I do of course make sure that its not too hat for her. It seems to help a little and she sleeps like that. Her breeder gave me that idea as she did it with Ciara's mum. Im not sure if Chloe would like that. Ciara does not like the bottle and if she sees it she moves away, but if I wrap it and put it behind her back without her seeing it first she is ok with it. |

| L.o.L Chloé is the same, if she sees the bottle then she runs away, but if I wrap it and hide it under her blankie then it's ok. Just 2 more weeks to go, I think by next week the bleeding will be less and she might feel better by then. We are going to fix her after all this. I wanted to let her have just one litter, just to be able to keep one of her babies, but feels the risk is too high! And I dont believe I will be able to sell her puppies, it will just brake my heart to do that, so rather going to fix her. Shame, then she doesnt need to go through this whole heat process again!! And I can then catch up on my sleep |

| I use a newborn baby's nappy on Taylor which is simply because of the mess (she bleeds through all her heats) but in our home it gets pulled off instantly because Trigger finds it a great game! I know it isnt great but at least with the nappies they can wee in it and then get thrown away. and i cut a big enough hole for the tail so she can always go to the loo. not that it matters much seeing as it comes off so quickly! Trigger is obsessed with pulling things off her - even her jersey! i opened the door the other day only to find her standing there with it pulled over her head and stuck like a tube!
Perhaps the bottle is too hot if it isnt covered?
Shame, it will be over soon and you can relax! |

| I aggree, it is the smell of the rubber that puts her off!! Thanks for the tip, I am going to buy baby nappies right now!!! Just this morning she had a misshap with her pantie on! Ag shame poor Taylor, but I am sure they are the greatest of friends. That is why I want to have another one, Chloé is our only, and I am sure she does get lonely sometimes. Although hubby works from home and is there for her all the time, I am sure she misses interaction with other doggies. |

| They definitely ARE the best of friends - although it took taylor a while to accept her new companion they are inseperable now.
i buy the newborn nappies and simply cut a hole for the tail. Originally i bought the proper "dog nappies" which were SO expensive and i found the baby nappies actually fit better.
good luck, hope she is feeling happier today! |

| I cant say taylor has ever humped a toy! sorry but i can only imagine!! They will go looking for a mate, best to keep her safely locked up at all times.
When Taylor had her first heat we took her to the farm in Underberg for the weekend and she dashed off into the trees with a large mixed breed male dog (like every mix available!!!) and i had heart failure. she was in a nappy thankfully and we caught her before it came off but it can be so quick and these male dogs can be very sly!
not only are the males sly, but I found she did everything in her power to get out and find a mate. Chloe's crying is probably her frustration at not having access to a mate. It sounds odd, but they dont reason the same way as we do. their natural instinct for a mate is very stong. Even when she was bred with my male this last heat she still tried her best to get out the door at every opportunity and find other males. Even with controlled breeding we had to watch her every move. |

| O I've seen the humping of a toy - my boyfriend's mom's chihauhau who has been spayed humps her teddy every now and then. It's only this teddy that she humps so we hide it from her every now and then. Zoey also loves this teddy but thats because she can play tug with it. She will sit next to it and cry until someone goes to play! |

| ha ha! actually now that i think of it the one and only humping moment Taylor ever had was with my fiance's arm! and she was still very young. I dont think i need to say how unimpressed he was! But she wasnt on heat at the time, i think it was pure excitement! |
