| I need help to make a very important decision. I have been putting June's pee pads in her pen and she has playtime attached to the front of the pen while she can still go inside the pen.
But, the potty training isn't progressing. She has accidents in her pen now as well as outside. I clean everywhere with an Oxy solution so that the smell is gone. She pees in the general area of the pad, but very rarely on it.
When she was younger, I would take her to a pad and wait until she did something, but after the first time (which was successful), she just lay down and went to sleep if I put her on the pad outside.
My question is this: should I just continue what I am doing or should I try something else? I read about how good little Chloe is and I can't help but wonder what I am doing wrong. I wasn't very successful with potty training Cash, so I am really anxious to get it right this time around.
Like Chloe, she was reared on newspaper for pottying, so I do put newspaper on top of the pad.
Should I just be patient even though she is digressing or should I maybe try just using newspaper or maybe a litter box with sand?
Please help, I don't know what to do anymore. _________________ |

| From day 1 we got ChloƩ into a routine. Every time (Approx 2 hours) we took her to her weewee spot (which she chose out herself) and stayed there with her until she does something, saying the command over and over. When she lay down on the paper we just picked her up and gives the command again until she went (with loads of praise after wards) It took a lot of patients, but is worth it. Now she goes on her own to her private toilet! If she made a mistake, we picked her up, saying "NO" and took her where she was suppose to do it on the paper. I think it also helped that the breeder started to train her on paper before we got her. Maybe you should leave her to choose a spot that she feels comfortable with, and then put the pads there! I do not have potty training problems but feeding problems |

| Hehe, I don't have feeding problems, but potty training problems I have too much of.
She picked a spot in her pen and I put the pads there. The first and second time she went there and now she doesn't anymore. Maybe I should try putting new newspaper in every time she pees in there. Oh, and her poop is all over the place - she backs up to the pen, balances her behind on it and then poops right there, no matter where the pad is.
I think I am going to try changing the paper every time and then also clicker train her. I haven't tried clicker training with potty training, but it works very well with everything else, so may as well give it a try.
Wish me luck!! _________________ |

| Changing the paper will def. help. ChloƩ will never, ever weewee twice on one paper. I must change the paper for every single weewee. She has got 2 places for weewee spots, if she weewee on the one spot she will run to the second spot and poop there! So yes, changing paper has become big part of my life now! Sometimes it feels that changing papers is ALL I do the whole day! And boy do I go through newspapers every day.... Luckily newspapers are not expensive! I normally go on a Saturday and buy every single newspaper that is available for her to weewee on for the week, and sometimes I run out before the end of the week. |

| Wow, that is a lot of newspaper. I usually try to get some free ones wherever I can. I am changing the newspaper more regularly now, but she still peed outside her pen during playtime.
She is now asleep on my lap, cute little thing. Anyway, I have decided to clicker train her to pee on her pad or the newspaper. I just have to be very vigilant, but I know approximately when she has to potty, so I will be prepared. She is very good in the morning - she sleeps with me and holds it for the whole night - when she really has to go asap, so I will start there.
I seriously have to find something that helps and I believe in clicker training, so I am going to try that.
I wanted to ask you, Leandie, do you want to have a playdate for the pups somewhere next weekend? I think it would be great for both of them to meet again, while they still remember each other. What do you think? _________________ |

| There is a product you can buy to spray on the newspaper to attract them. Shortly after we got Puddin' there was a shortage of pads...yup, a shortage. We were down to our last two pads and were preparing to go to newspapers when suddenly I found some. But during that preparation time we found this stuff...my husband found it at Perky Pets, it's called Daro House Training spray for puppies and kittens.
Also, try neutralizing "accident" spots with white vinegar. Oxy will get the smell out for YOUR nose, but not for the puppy's.
And don't give up...Puddin' went through a pee and poop everywhere stage just a couple a weeks before she "got it." She has been running around the house without nappies...even on the carpets and wood floors...for nearly a week now, and not even ONE accident!
Pay attention to where she pees and poops and put pads or paper there. Put a nappy on her when she is not in proximity to the pads. And if she won't use a pad more than once, then change them. Eventually, if you don't leave places like potty (to her) all over the floors, she will catch on. It took Puddin more than five months but now that she understands, she understands it solidly! |

| Hi There, I am still struggling tp get Ciara to stick to one spot. We have put newspaper put for her, but she uses it when she wants to. Also, if its cold, she refuses to go outside. She loves peeing on our carpet. I dont know what to do anymore. We bought dry wonder (a powder that removes stains without water), but I think the sent is still there as she does it on or near to the same spot. We have tried training her since she was a puppy, but she is quite stubborn and one day she does it right and the next she will pee where she wants. |

| I read in my one puppy book to always keep a piece of wee paper...i know it sounds gross but they smell where they have wee'd before and are more likely to wee where they can smell it again.
I was at my wits end with Taylor eventually and my boyfriend told me she had to start sleeping outside which broke my heart. but as soon as our fences were 100% secure I would leave her outside and she has now learned to go potty outside. she will sometimes wee inside but NEVER poo.
My second puppy arrives in a weeks time and I am hoping that I am better at the house trainging this time around than last! |

| I'm still having trouble with this too. I didn't do my research on potty training before I got Cash and I had no idea what to do, so he isn't completely potty trained. He won't pee inside because he likes to mark his territory, but he'll poo inside. He is a lot better than he was and he is still improving. I actually can't remember the last time he did something inside.
June has been getting worse, but I am picking her training up again. When it rains, she refuses to do anything outside. Plus, we live in a big house now and their sense of 'outside' is totally warped. But I've started going out into the garden with them in the morning and praising and giving her a treat when she goes outside. She just has to remember her previous training.
Anyway, it has always been a struggle for me and I hope it gets better with continued training and vigilance. _________________ |

| So it seems that yorkies have a problem doing their business outside.!!! Ciara surprised me last night. I opened the sliding door for her and she first looked at me with that "Are you crazy stare!!!" (My husband calls it that when she looks at us funny!!!!) but then she went out and did both outside. I suppose they have their days and moods!!! |

| We have made them indoor doggies - what can you expect? to them bed and toilet are all inside!
All i know is when my little Toby arrives next weekend I am straight on the house training and I plan on getting it right this time. I can just see Taylor reverting back to her old behaviours because naything he can do she can do better! |

| I am sure that you are excited about your new pup. I am also in the market for a male yorkie. Just have to find a suitable breeder. I would like a small breed as Ciara is 2kg in weight. If I decide to breed with her, then the male will be the right size.
How big is Taylor? |

| Mine are all paper trained and my little boy will keep his wee when we travel for hours. He wil not wee on grass and wait for me until I put his paper down and then go.
BTW: I don't know if you guys know about this but I use Linen Savers I buy at a nappy/baby shop that has a plastic lining and they last a long longer than newspaper and can be dried in the sun and used again. They are cheap and I do not like the smell that news paper and wee have...............LOL!!!!! |

| Do you use the linen savers in the same way as you would newspapers? I mean by putting it on the floor? Newspapers do give off a bad smell!!! |

| Yes Val, I just put them down and take them with me where ever I go and I think my babies like the soft feel of them under their feet. Another think I like about them there is no wee run of like sometimes on a newspaper. |

| Hi Amoureux,
I noticed that with Ciara too. I think she likes soft thinks. She is always weeing on our bathroom mats or the carpet. She also does not like the grass too much. So one can buy it at any baby shop then? |

| I am not sure if all baby shops will have them but I am sure if you ask at a Nappy shop they will be able to help you. It is the same Linen Savers they use in hospitals to protect the sheets. |
