PostSubject: Proper Grooming   Mon Jun 08, 2009 10:02 am

Ok, so I groom both of mine myself. I love giving them their weekly bath and spa sessions, complete with a protein treatment, massage, deep cleansing facial, a manicure and pedicure. Throughout the spa session, they receive healthy snacks and lots of confidence-boosting speeches.

Hehe, so my question is for those who know what the correct grooming is for a show yorkie. I really love their look and since we are growing coat, I want to check that what I am doing is correct in terms of the standard.

The only thing that I shave is their ears, the rest of the hair just receives a treatment and a proper, thorough brushing.

What do groomers do when you take your babies there? What do they cut and what do they leave?

Chloé is going to the parlor once a week. The lady there specialize
in Yorkies and owns 4 of them herself. She also shows with them.
At Chloé's first visit she got psychological treatment before the bath.

Chloé just loves this women, I am so glad about that. I tried to bath
her myself but she gets very upset with me, and after the bath she
gets so depress and sleeps the rest of the day, that is why I decide
to rather take her once a week to this amazing women.

She shaves Chloé's ears, underneath her paws, on her private part
and on her backside (So the poop can't stick to the hair there)
The hair around the paws is also trimmed and shaped nicely

She also cuts her nails and cleans her ears on the inside! She
smells soooo good after her bath, she puts a sort of cologne on them
which is divine!!
After her bath when she leaves, the women gives her a little bag with
a few treats in for being so good.

All this for only R45, so once a week I take her for her spa treatment!

At first I hated leaving her there, but now Chloé gets so excited when
she sees this lady, which gives me total piece of mind.

It sounds like you found the perfect groomer. I am still studying so I can't even afford that and I love grooming them myself.
I shave the ears and sometimes trim the feet. I also do a sanitary cut when necessary.

Ok, so I am doing everything necessary, the coat just needs to grow. Smile

in D'Urbanvale and her contact number is 021 979 5660.
This dear lady's name is Sharon, and like I said she is very
good with Chloé and knows her very well by now..

Does she do other breeds as well? I also have 2 Maltese and the groomer I have sent them to for the past 5 years has changed hands three times and the newest owners are just SO disorganized!

Last week I sent the Maltese Mafia out for their monthly cut and bath and they came back bathed, but no haircuts! Unfortunately, the maid received them as I was out, so I didn't see it until later. The bill was lower than usual, but I attributed that to the fact that it was two dogs this time instead of 3.

Hubby paid the bill over the internet and over the weekend they called me to say I owed them another R70!! I said "but the bill is for R170, I have it right here" and she said well, "we did anals and nails and shaved the bum strip..."

At that point I had to interrupt because nothing was shaved! AND, the bill in my hand said R170!

So I told her that they had been bathed, but they had not been cut...but when I looked at the bill a second time, I realized they had sent me someone else's bill.

I'm ready to try someplace else, so if this place does Maltese as well, mebbe we'll just book a spa day for all three of them!

Yes, she most def. do Maltese as well. She also do Scottish Terriers.
She has a salon attached to her house with a little shop that sells clothing,
bedding and treats. Chloé just loves her treats and gobbles them up in
no time.

Last week I bought a bottle of the cologne she puts on them, and it
smells very good on Chloé. Smile It is from Bio-Groom Natural Scents
(Wild Honeysuckle) Really nice!

If anyone wants a terrific groomer in Centurian let me know..I drive every other weak with my three..go shopping for two hours and pick them up. These are the kindest, most dog loving ladies I have ever met. very reasonable rates and trust them with my babies completely. Fridays are "Yorkie day" and its such fun for them all
My bill for three.. trimmed, brushed and anal glands done if necessary...R210. Now thats good service. Janice

I live in Douglasdale and I'm not happy with the groomer I have been using. Do you know of anyone who knows Yorkies in Sandton, preferably in Four Ways or in Morninside (where I am moving in September)? I never get near Centurion...too far away!

Hi All

I took Duncan to Barks & Bubbles Parlour over the weekend, and he looked totally like a grown man when he came back from her, normally when I wash him im more soaked than what he is and she says he was a well behaved pup and enjoyed the experience, I was so relieved that he enjoyed it because when I dropped him of I was so sad when I had to leave wondering if he would be mad at us when we returned for him, he has a tendancy to ignore you when his not happy with you!! lol, but he loved it and I will most def. take him back their again.

Thank you to the group for the recommendation.

Hi

I wanted to ask if this lady works over weekends, but I see Tammy took Duncan over the weekend. Does she only work on Saturdays? I will have to travel from Franschhoek, so I need at least 45 min to get to her.

Hi Ladies

I just have a quick Q, it might be a silly one but I figured i would just make sure with the group, as you know Duncan went to the parlour and I know that the lady trimmed his ears, ever since then he has been shaking his head and flapping his ears almost as if something is irratating him by his ear area, initially I thought it was because he was not used to it but buy now he should have gotten used to it?

Should I be concerned?

Tammy, did you check inside his ears? My Yorkies don't shake their heads after I've groomed their ears, but they do if they get water into them. I don't know if it's common for them to become irritated by the lack of hair, but it never happens with my dogs. Dogs usually shake their heads and flap their ears to get something out of them; it's a natural reaction. I'm thinking that there could be something inside his ears that he's trying to get out.

If you can't see anything inside and the problem persists, it might be a good idea to have a vet check inside.
