Can anyone please tell me where I can find out about the Gold Dust breed yorkie? I am desperately looking for one.

Never heard of it.

Is Gold Dust a kennel? Or a colour variation?

They are a light caramel colour when they are born and when they are grown up they have a glowing blond, almost strawberry blonde colour.

You can have a look on the following website: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] On the home page go the the Information tab on the left. If you go down with the list you will see "Exotics" Click on that then you can see what the Gold dust look like!

They are gorgeous!

Aren't they just gorgeous! I fell in love the first time I saw these precious little things. I did not get a reply from them when I send an email so I am hoping someone here will be able to help me. They are obviously very rare, but I want one, no matter the cost!

I would be very careful about "exotic" colours in Yorkies...the "chocolate" Yorkie, for example, comes about as the result of a genetic mutation that not only causes colour variations but some significant health problems as well. I therefore have to wonder what kind of health issues the mutation causing the "gold dust" colour will bring.

Really? Thats a pity? Now that you mention it. My mom has two beautiful yorkie boys. The one is the traditional(if I can put it that way) colour, black and caramel and the other one is silver with just a little bit of tan around his little face. And the latter, I must say, has more problems with his health more often, in fact the "traditional" one has never been sick. While the silver one has had throat infections, ear infections a stomach ulcer and his skin is very sensitive. But all is under control, he receives extra extra special care when it comes to his health.

Even if we are willing and able to provide that extra special care to their health, I think it is unfair to encourage the breeding of animals that will most likely have health problems just so we can have something cute or different. Years ago I bred Persian cats but quit when they started breeding those extremely pushed in faces. Not only did I think they were ugly, but it affected the health of the animals, from skin problems (the folds of skin on the face can get infected) to breathing problems (deformed sinuses), to neurological problems from misshapen and constricted skulls. Imagine how kittens born with these problems must feel...and they suffer so WE can have something "different" or "cute."

I feel the same way about variations in dog breeds that are perpetuated solely for the "entertainment" of people...breeding dogs with genetic mutations that make them sick just so we can have something cute or different is just wrong. I used to breed Collies and may soon start breeding my Yorkies, but always, health of the animals comes first and that is usually best accomplished by breeding to meet or better the breed standard (see KUSA for Yorkie standards).

Sorry to sound like a prig, but I think the health and well-being of the animals must outweigh our desires for something unusual or different.

Oh, I definitely agree and I do not think that any breeder that live up to the standards will breed a "sickly" dog on purpose and I am sure that it is not any breeders intention to do that?
I love yorkies and will obviously never support any breeder that breed dogs just for "entertainment" of people. Yorkies are my children, they are not my "entertainment" and I am sure the breeders that breed these special ones do not get any sort of sick enjoyment from it.
I do agree with you that the health and well-being of any animal is more important and that is obviously why there is very strict rules when it comes to breeding. That is why this breed is so rare and I wanted to find out more about them.
Please note my reply in which I mention the website where you can view these beautiful dogs are NOT UNDER FIRE. This lady LOVES and ADORES her yorkshire children. The mention of the website was for the soul purpose to give you an idea of the colour of the dog because that is what you asked.

Im nervous to comment because I have my own opinions on colour variations.

However im going to say that I think these dogs are beautiful. I would advise that you look carefully at their parents and their health as you should with ANY puppy to try and avoid future problems. Dont leap "heart first" as we all often do Smile make sure your puppy is the healthiest and strongest of the litter. Look for a puppy that is full of life, doesnt sit and cower in the corner and that has a good appetite etc. That is what should be done with any breed! do as much research as you possibly can before choosing a pup Smile

I personally would like to think that all our beloved Yorkies had one genetic beginning and today we are blessed to have Black and Gold, Black and Tan, Blue and Gold, Blue and Tan, Partis, Biewers, and also the not so accepted chocolate, Gold Dust and blonde versions of the breed. IMHO they should all be accepted and we should be fighting to protect them based on health and wellness not just the shade of their hair colour. but that is just my personal opinion on the matter.

remember though that some of the newly accepted variations were not always accepted and people have fought long and hard for the rights of their dogs and therefore protect them at all costs. We in South Africa are blessed to have the Biewers as a KUSA resognised developing breed and now we have the oh so gorgeous Parti's and Parti carriers in our country thanks to the hard work and dedication of many of you breeders on this site.

The problems comes in i believe when greedy, inexperienced people take over and breed some of these dogs simply for the sake of selling them for an arm and a leg just for popularity reasons to unsuspecting people who dont know what to look for. When care is taken to ensure health we are blessed with happy dogs Smile That is why i say take the time to do the research, get to know people who own them, people who have dedicated their entire lives to them, people who breed them, read their stories and look around. By doing that you will really know exactly what you want and what questions you need to ask the breeders you go to see and what to look for when searching for your new friend. Money cant always buy a healthy pet. remember a healthy pet is a happy pet Smile

@Taylor,

Thank you for your valuable advise. You know, I get so emotional about these beautiful four legged human beings, I take better care of them as I do for myself! Thats why I joined this forum because I know you get the best advise from people who have been there and gone through it themselves. I do not breed with yorkies myself because I will never get it over my heart to give away the babies, so my intention of having a Gold dust is not for breeding but just to appreciate and love his beauty.
Thank you for your advise.

You got some real good advice Esta!!! I heard about the gold yorkie from the breeder that I got my female (Ciara from). She mentioned once that she knew someone that imported them in from Germany at a great cost. I wonder if it is the breeder on that website!!!

They are beautiful!!! Like Kristin said, the health of the dogs are most important, so make sure you go to a trusted breeder and they can gaurentee you that there are no illnesses or inbreeding that can cause you a lot of heartache and expenses later!!

Good luck!!!

can you ever really guarantee health? I mean, so many things could go wrong no matter how well bred an animal is. same with people. There might be no signs of hereditary disease in the parents or their families and yet a child can be born with a heart defect or worse. I work with a woman who's first son was born with a hole in his heart and had to have open heart surgery as a newborn infant. yet in both her family and her husbands family there has never been anyone with a heart condition. her second son is perfectly healthy.

Esta, the fact that you have joined the forum alone shows you want to learn and that is very important. I often wish i had found a forum like this before i got my dogs so i knew more! and we LOVE to share stories! sometimes go way off topic but always share our news both good and bad! It sounds like you already have other Yorkies in your family so im sure you have had a good introduction to them and their wonderful characters Smile

Breeding is both difficult and often heart breaking if things go wrong. Not that things always go wrong but they can. There is no shame in wanting a beautiful pet like this Smile If you make sure they are strong and healthy then i see no harm in it! Im personally blonde so maybe a little bias! ha ha ha ha ha!

Let me also add that my little girl Taylor is blonde on her face with some tan around her ears and her coat is a silver colour so she is not "standard" as such and is fit and healthy Smile That is her in the middle picture of my signature. She has the normal teary eyes sometimes which is her only fault im aware of and as a puppy had a rough start but it was not because of her colouring!!!! The breeder was irresponsible and let her go at 6 weeks before she had any teeth to chew and before she was weaned! However since then she has had no problems at all! In fact, today is her first vets visit in a year only because she is having her innoculations!

We are all very passionate about our pooches! I hope you find your perfect best friend soon so you can share your stories with us!

I agree with you so much Taylor!! As you know my breeder also let my two babies go at 6 weeks, and I am just happy they turned out fine! But I feel so sorry for them if I think they had to go only at 6 weeks, and I never ever want to relive that time of my live, battling to get them to eat, etc! It was so difficult!

Some puppies are fine - I know Sweetviolet personally prefers them young. Other people believe they are best left to learn the ways of life with their mother until they are a little older. And i think each puppy is different.

Taylor nearly died, that's the truth, because she was under so much stress from being away from her mother and needing a feed because she hadnt been weaned yet and had no teeth to even try and eat. I nearly lost her the first night I had her home. The vet told me if i hadnt brought her in she would have died from her high white blood cell count. Shame, there she lay, almost motionless, with a drip in her tiny leg trying to get some fluids into her Sad Yet I got Trigger at 7 weeks old and he has never given me a moments trouble. it was like he wasn't REALLY that young! The only time he has seen the inside of a vets room is for his injections as a baby. He bounced around from day one pulling and biting everything!

Shame, it is not fair to the puppy to let them go this early! I am so glad she got through it!! I remember how I battled to get food into mine when they were 6 weeks old, it was such a battle, and so stressfull. My vet even told me that he think they were younger than 6 weeks and that the breeder lied about their age! I agree with you, I also wish I had this forum before getting them, I would have been so much wiser!

Thank you Karen and Taylor!

Little Taylor is beautiful! And I take it it is Tammy and Misty in your picture Karen?

I will post some pics of the yorkies in my life, Bolla and Tokkelos (they are Afrikaans barking Laughing )
They have two very diffirent personalities but I love them to bits.

Are you guys maybe familiar with the Wampum products. I have come across it on the Internet. At this moment I am using a Marltons Conditioning Shampoo for them but somehow it just not seem good enough for them. If I can spend hunderds of rands on quality products for my hair why not for them?

I also use it, and love it. It is very easy to find in Pretoria, most vets and vetshops stock it. Their head office is in Pretoria.
