| Hi there. Lola is now a very independant pup and she loves to explore. She loves spending time in the garden ewith my bigger dog. The unfortunate thing is that she eats my bigger dogs poop, any time she can get it. She sometimes brings it in but we've managed to stop that but she still eats it outside. We pick up the poop almost immediately but sometimes thats not possible or you miss a piece. This is really starting to bother me now.
My vet (Panorama) had a very interesting puppy talk run by a vet and a dog behaviorist. I learned so much from them both. I asked the specialists why Lola may be eating poop and he said that there have been many studies that have looked into many possible reasons why dogs do this, but each study has turned out inconclusive. There are many possibilities why she may do his but we cannot pin point it at this stage. He did suggest examining a blood sample in case she is lacking something.
This is one specialists point of view and I would love any insight if anyone has any? and how I can stop this? |

| I agree, nothing seems to word. I tried the pineapple and the meat tenderiser and nothing seems to work. The only thing that works is to pick up the poo immediatly and as you say that is not always possible. |

| Picking up the poop and the hope she grows out of it is what Im holding onto now! Amazing that there is no known reason why this happens. I wonder if its just some dogs personal "taste" preference? as in some dogs just like teh taste. Lola hardly eats her own food as it is but she'll eat poop! Boggles my mind Anyway, tomorrow is Lola's first parlour visit, Im excited and nervous at teh same time! |

| Puddin' never did it and Lovey doesn't seem to have any interest in it, but I used to have a Peke that did it and the only way to stop it was to ...pick up the poop. By the time she was a year old or so, she didn't do it any more, but as a puppy...gross!!
Good luck! |

| It's such a gross habit! Mine never did it until suddenly one day Trigger picked up a piece and came and brought it to me and started munching and i nearly died! He has stopped doing it though. I always told him a firm NO and he soon realised it made me unhappy. Thankfully he is a sensitive little guy and if he is scolded he tries to stop his behaviour because he likes to please! Shame, i think he thought bringing me a piece of poop would make me happy!
picking it up is definitely the best solution though - then they have no temptation! |

| My little Zozi also went through a stage of bringing me her own poop She wouldn't touch anyone elses poop - it was just her own - & she would come running to me with her tail wagging like crazy & her eye's all sparkling - then she would put the poop right on my lap She really thought she was doing something good Of course my natural reaction was to jump up & start shrieking - then poor little Zozi would be so confused, she would drop her head down & look so incredibly sad Then I would feel just awful But I think she got the message & I'm delighted to say she no longer brings me her special little gifts |

| I wish Lola's intensions were for giving purposes. She just wants to eat it. I was thinking tho...she really like my bigger dog's (Jossie) food. She always goes for her food rather than her own. This really surprised me and I dont let her eat it because they are big pellets and very hard. Maybe she can taste some of it in the poop?
so gross! |

| DEfinitely worth a try thanks :-) I just got a sample of orijen but she'd already had supper when I got home so just treated her with a few pellets and she went CRAZY for it! I will give her orijen to start (because I know its great and maybe she was lacking something that was in Jossies food) and if she still brings in poop tomorrow morning (believe me she finds little pieces left in the grass and licks it!) then Ill give her some of Jossie's food. Her choking on it is my biggest worry. They are so big for her tiny mouth. I generally soften her food with water and a tiny bit of the canned hills puppy food, it makes a nice gravy for her. So ill do it like that. Thanks for the advice. I really hope I can crack this because as I say, she'll even lick the grass where the poop was! |
