PostSubject: yet another potty training problem   Fri Jan 14, 2011 7:23 am

Hi there. Lola is getting quite big now, almost at 3 months old, and she's fantastic in every way except her potty training. I am SOOOO consistant and take her out after food, after nap and in between as well. My lounge door is ALWAYS open for her to get outside, but unless she ghets taken there (she walks out after me, I dont carry her) she wee's in all sorts of places...my treadmill, under my bed, and even right by the loungfe door leading outside!

if I catch her, I say a harsh"NO!" and take her where she should go, but I ignore it if I find it later.

Tips anyone?

Unfortunately I also have the same issue now and then!!! They will do it on the paper and be good one day and the next......they just do it on the floor.

Mika seems to be good with his potty, but Ciara is naughty!!! And I can tell you that if they do it once, they keep on. I have not mastered the art of stopping them yet! I washed my floors with vinegar, used pet repellent, but once they mark....its difficult to stop them!!

Maybe someone else knows something and can help us!!

By the way, I tried looking for you on facebook, but could not find you!! There were a few Kristins. What pic do you have now?

Im glad its not only me...Im hoping with consistency and her getting older that it will eventually come right with time.

You probably couldnt find me because of the spelling of my first name :-) its Kirsten Maartens. Right now my profile pic is of me and a friend.

Ok, sorry about the wrong spelling Embarassed !!!Will try again!!

It should help. Like I mentioned, Mika is good. We kept him to the routine that the breeder had him on and he will run to his paper. he has a slip now and then. Ciara on theother hand did not have a routine and will wee on the paper, but then on other spots as well!!!!!!!

potty training a Yorkie is not an exact science! some never learn, others do. that being said i believe it is not impossible but takes real patience! I mean, Ciara is 3 and still has accidents! My Taylor is almost 17 months and still has the odd whoopsie! although i must say she generally will go outside and only wees inside if she is desperate and cant get out!

I also think a lot depends on how the breeder brought them up. Trigger had an obsession about weeing on anything soft when i got him because he had been kept on foam and liked the feel. i had to pick up everything he could possibly find! even now as soon as i decide he is over it and i put the carpet back he goes and wees on it like a moth to a flame!

it takes time and patience and perseverance and a cool head!

I have had issues now with Trigger marking inside the house and i read that taking a water bottle and putting some old coins inside and making a shaker bottle can help. i keep it in the kitchen normally and i use it when im out of his reach and i see him sniffing around like he wants to life his leg. when i shake it the noise shocks him and he will run outside and wee there and then i ALWAYS go and give a treat of some kind to tell him he did good Smile

I am really glad its not just me having this issue! Tammy and Misty is almost a year and I battle so much. Sometimes they are good but they also pee all over the floor or loose carpets some days. I also take them out and sometimes they are so good but sometimes I will stand and wait and they just run around and wait till they come inside to pee. I, ve got a corner in my top floor with paper and they do go there a lot, if they wake up I take them there and they do their business when I tell them to, and they go there a lot through the day on their own, but sometimes they are just so naughty and just go on the floor! I must be honest , I,ve given up. When i take them outside Misty always takes a toy with, so she dont want to pee because she dont want to let go of the toy. And if I take it, she stands and wait for it. No

Just a thought. Mine were all very good at going outside until I put tiles in my house and also some places outside now they seem not to know where inside and outside is and will sometimes get a slip inside. I don't know if the feel under their pads in their paws feel the same and that is why they are confused.

I also have tiles in the house and the outside yard where they generally do their business is paved...you have a good point there!

Thats something to think about Amoureux. We actually have the same tiles on our patio and in the house. I know when Mika was still smaller he used to play on the grass and wee on the patio!!! Suspect This could explain a lot!!!!
