PostSubject: Somewhere in the gene pool Taylor got some feline qualities!    Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:27 pm

On saturday I was home alone and had a lazy start to my day. My fiance went out and he drives a big Taylota van so im always particularly adamant about never letting the dogs out the front unless we are busy there and they are supervised. (We live in a complex far from road level so they are safe)

so i decided eventually to have a shower and the dogs normally sit religiously outside the door waiting for me so that they can lick my legs - gross but they all seem to love it! Taylor was very quiet, I thought she was out catching monkeys or birds.

Next thing is there was loud knocking at the door so i quickly jumped out in my towel to answer and found a little boy at the gate with his mom (who was on the phone) and he had Taylor in his arms. I sheepishly thanked him and scurried back inside to get dressed! on my way I phoned Nic and gave him a real piece of my mind for letting her out and being so irresponsible! he felt SO bad and begged me to forgive him! shame! he said he had made sure they were inside and he didnt see her run out - she normally waits until we give her permission to come out the front door so it was odd. He just kept saying he was so sorry and he could have killed her and he was almost in tears!

The front door was STILL locked and the door itself was CLOSED...not even 2 monutes later I saw Trigger standing at the door wagging his tail and crying and scratching the door so i opened it and there she was, OUTSIDE the door running around the complex and chasing the neighbours cat up and down. WOW I WAS CROSS! i called her inside and chased her out the backdoor and went and cheked the fences because I know she can get througha damn keyhole. the fences were all fine!

by this stage i was confused so I sat down and watched her, knowing that she suffers with OCD and would soon show me how she was getting out! Next thing...she runs into the spare room which is in the front, jumps onto the bed, up onto one of the washing baskets, uses it as a ladder and ran across onto the window sill and popped out the window!!!!!!! talk about clever! Trigger of course doesnt have all his lights on upstairs and is a bit slow with these things!

So i moved the basket and made sure she was inside. but no, back she goes, onto the bed, across the side table this time and along the full length of the window sill to get out! She has even tried to climb oout the bathroom window - I know because she had muddy feet when she tried and left evidence! The bathroom window is very high but she climbs up the corner shelf and tries to jump out!

And she has figured out how to get through the mesh on the front door as well. She sommer takes a flying leap and manages to aim through the square and out the other side to greet people. Gotta try and calm her down but her oozes happiness for people and animals!

Cat or dog?????? Needless to say I had to put my pride in my pocket and phone Nic and tell him I was sorry and he hadn't done anything wrong! The door is now just kept permanently shut!

Many things she does reminds me of cats!!!!

Glad you found the spot where she gor out!!!

Mika also reminds me of Trigger (they must be related lol! ) He is over careful and scared and will not even jump off a low bed. He cries all the time and I have to take him off!!!! Ciara on the other hand is the accrobat in the house!!

Zoey also licks my legs when I get out the shower & licks when I've put cream on - I think she likes the taste.
We have a fence outside our front door because the door is always open for guests so we put it up to stop Molly from wondering - when she was a puppy she ALWAYS got out and we would get calls from the strangest places to go fetch her. Zoey just jumps over the fence and does her own thing. luckily she's too attached to go too far so she never leaves the courtyard unless she's looking for my nanny at the back and then if she can't find her she comes straight back.

My aunt was telling us that her Yorkie also jumps out the window so they have to make sure it's closed when they go out!

Funny what good escape artists they are.

Zo had a play pen when she was little, it didn't last long coz she just escaped and I used to feed her in my bathroom which has a sliding door, everyone was in the lounge and the next minute she comes running through - she somehow managed to escape out of there too!!

I was thinking of meshing the windows but how untidy will that look???

I dont mind her going out, she loves running around and knows her boundary but give her an inch and she takes a mile! naughty naughty naughty! Now she stands on the bed and whimpers at her imaginery friends!

My fiance says Taylor sees ghosts because I promise you there will be not a breath of wind or any sounds around and she puts her ears back, wags her tail and starts to have what looks like a chat with this invisible thing! he is also convinced we have a resident ghost in our home which only targets him. he says it likes Taylor, Trigger is too dof to see it and it likes me but hates him! ha ha! it's odd but if we have a fight there is a photo of him in the kitchen that ALWAYS falls off the shelf...windows will be closed, and the photo is jammed behind books which never fall but his picture always lands face down on the floor! ha ha! I use it to my advantage to scare him into submission! lol!

Luckily if she ever gets out my neighbours all know her and bring her back or keep her until im home. I have been lucky - just never thought she would get out of windows!

I think Trigger is just a follower Smile he is a real acrobat but sometimes his brain is a tad slower than hers! she hunts and chases things and he just gets in her way! ha ha! such characters!

I have long said that I think Puddin' is part cat. She uses her front paws the way a cat does...wraps her toes and claws around something like a chewy to hold it in place like they were little fingers. She also climbs, although I had the foresight to get her a step stool for the bed and now, even though she can easily jump up onto sofas and chairs, she believes she needs the steps to get up onto the bed, so she doesn't jump there. When she jumps up on the sofa, she does it exactly like a cat...she leaps higher than the cushion then lightly settles down on it. She is also as silent as a cat and can creep in and out of a room without anybody hearing her!

We don't have many windows in the house...just a lot lot lot of sliding glass doors...5 to be exact... and I have had to put baby gates up at the doors to keep her inside because our outside gates aren't narrow enough to keep her inside the property. Those work very well, although we actually had to take her with us to Baby City to make sure we got a gate that she could not get through!

She also likes to lick my legs when I get out of the shower, and loves to lick cream off them (but I don't let her...who knows what is in there that's not good for her?). She chases birds, hates water, and even sleeps in one of those kitty cocoons! I DO wonder at times if she might also be descended from cats!

Sounds very familiar sweetviolet! ha ha! I find Taylor in odd places and she is very light on her toes! the other day I was talking to my neighbour across the fence which of course drives her mad with happiness and I wasn't watching her until my neighbour started to laugh! there she was about 2 foot off the ground, CLIMBING the fence which is wooden VERTICAL slats with wire mess to close the gaps!

Maybe she needs a kitty cocoon and a scratching post! ha ha lol!

I really believe that Cash has feline DNA somewhere... apart from the fact that he hates cats! confused He likes sleeping on my windowsills when I'm not home, he opens doors with his paws, he likes to stretch out like a cat, he jumps as high as one and he is fussy with his food!

This dog is seriously worrying me!

On saturday I was outside with my fiance and the dogshanging out some washing and he went back inside and they followed him thinking iw as coming too. But he shut the door on his way in so they were stuck inside. both my dogs are what i findly call "moeder vas" and they never leave my side. So Taylor obviously went into panic mode when i was outside and she was stuck inside.

I was on one end of the gerden and something caught my eye and i turned around to see to my HORROR Taylor balancing on the outside of the windowsill!!!!! affraid it was the lounge window this time and our house is on a higher level than the outside ground and when you walk out the back door there ar steps going down so the window sill is a good 5 feet high, maybe even more. and the tiles are slanted so she was doing a real balancing act.

By the time my brain registered what the hell I was seeing I didnt know whether to run at her and grab her before she fell or walk slowly and try keep her still unti i could get there. I was a good 15 meters away from her. As i moved towards her she realised I had seen her and she moved and she fell. but as she fell she pushed her back feet against the sill and she flew a good meter or 2 away from the window and hit the ground so damn hard and rolled. I was instantly in tears and ran and scooped her up and VERY LUCKILY she is ok. She is so delicate and small and I just pictured her with broken legs the way she fell. the lady that bred her killed one of her dogs accidentally. She was getting into her car and someone let her dog out the house and the dog ran to jump in the car and she didnt see it and as the dog jumped she closed the door and killed her. They are THAT delicate.

my fiance came out because I yelled and i was bawling my eyes out and she kinda lay in my arms with her eyes shut against my chest and i was too afriad to puther down in case something was broken. 5 minutes later she was running around again as usual.

I just dont know what to do...I mean i can't keep the windows shut all day and this was a freak thing where the door was shut and she wanted to get to me and I hadnt noticed. She wasnt climbing out to be naughty and I think she only realised how stupid the idea was to climb over the couch and out the window once she got outside and saw how high she was and she panicked.

But with her cat like qualities she landed on her feet and is now fine and im keeping a beady eye on her. my only option is to put some mesh on the windows and make it look like I live in a prison Sad

In America we put screens in our windows to keep bugs out...they also work to keep dogs and cats in/out.

Maybe you can get some kind of screening to fit in the windows the same way you fit burglar bars? That, or remove anything from in front of your windows that she can climb on!

It's just so hot to put mesh on the wondows - i was thinking of that plastic mesh with the bigger holes that i use on my security gate. I have been keeping all doors closed on the road side of the house because that is my worse concern in case she gets out. I dont think she will climb out the high window again after that!

Little brat!

sometimes I think some animals do things that bothers you just because they know it bothers you! My bird (african grey) has such a stunning and wide vocab but he makes these high pitched whistles more than most times because he knows it bothers us!
