PostSubject: Great dog breeders in Cape Town   Sat Oct 23, 2010 4:40 pm

Hi there.

I am so excited because I am getting my very first yorkie in a few weeks hopefully.I have always had dogs and am a great animal lover, but now its finally time for me to have a pet and it will be ALL MINE! Very Happy What better breed could I have chosen other than a yorkie?! I am writing exams and going to be on a long holiday from the first week in december. I have been in contact with some breeders but would really like to have a good idea and wide variety to choose from, also it would have to be at the right time as well. I was wondering if anyone here are expecting to have puppies ready for new homes in december? or know of anyone? I live in Cape Town.

I really can't wait. Both breeders I have met are good but as I said, I would like to 'shop around' to see exactly how this is done right.
I have not been able to contain myself either, I have got a bed, chew toys and warm puppy bean bag already and both of these breeders havn't even had their pups yet! hehe.

I would love to hear from you if you have any advice or info for me

Thanks, Kirsten

Hi Kirsten, welcome to the SA Yorkie Forum cheers You will have lots of fun here Very Happy

Before you start your search you need to decide if you want a male or female pup. There is loads of "male yorkie versus female yorkie" info on the internet. Then I think you should start by visiting a few breeders that will have pups ready for new homes in December. A reputable breeder will welcome you in to their home. Then you can see the pups and the dam, maybe even the sire if the breeder doesn't use an outside stud. You will be able to see the living conditions of the dogs & pups, & will be able to tell if they are well cared for and well socialized. Remember the breeder will be checking you out too Very Happy You will get a good feel of the different breeders out there, & will soon be able to tell the good from the bad. I think it's great that you are "shopping around" cheers Don't be scared to ask the breeders for a few contact references of past puppy buyers, it's always good to get reassurance from others about their experiences with the breeder, and it will show the breeder that you will be a good mommy to one of their babies. Not too many years ago one would have to put their names on a waiting list for a yorkie pup, but sadly with the increased popularity of the breed there are now tons of breeders - so you have to be very careful. Only buy from a registered breeder and only buy a pup that has been registered, then you can contact KUSA and ask if there have been any complaints against that breeder. Pale sweat Wishing you the best of luck in your perfect puppy hunt I love you

Thanks! I have actually been in contact with you via email :-) I am still amazed at your parti's! So beautiful.

I have been in contact with the breeder you recommended. I am interested in a female and she might not have any available because other people have provisionally booked. We'll have to wait and see.

In terms or breeders, I have seen an amazing difference between the two breeders I have visited. I'm glad I have gone through this approach so I have an idea what to expect.

Thanks for your advice Very Happy

Wow, I wish I had gone the same route when I got my first Yorkie. You have no idea how much heartache you are sparing yourself by being patient and looking for the right Yorkie, and the right breeder. You've gotten some amazing advice so far.
Out of interest, why did you decide on getting a girl? There are many misconceptions about the genders. In general, boys are much more loving and attentive while girls are more independent and moody. But ultimately, it depends on the individual puppy. They often say that the puppy picks you and not the other way around Smile

Here are some things to look for in a breeder: Do they sell on limited registration? Reputable breeders won't sell their puppies with full registration unless the buyer is another reputable breeder. This is a great thing: it keeps backyard breeders and puppy mills from buying and breeding with these puppies. Please support the breeders who do this because it is one of the only ways to control reckless and irresponsible breeding.

Anyway, I think Val mentioned that you should think about joining us for the get-together. We are having the first SAY get-together on the 13th of November in Cape Town. You are still very new to the forum, but you are more than welcome to join us. This will give you an opportunity to meet a group of Yorkies (and their owners Smile ) and get to know the breed a little better. Yorkies are one of the best breeds there are, but they're also one of the most demanding breeds. Owning a Yorkie is a lifestyle... are you ready for that? If you are, it will be the best decision you ever made!

June is a lot darker in colour than Chloe. Her back is completely black (like their grandmother's) while it looks like Chloe has the perfect blue colouring. How much does Chloe weigh? June is a tiny 2kg - I hoped she would grow more, but with her black back and small size, everyone thinks she is a puppy! I am really curious to see if they will recognize and remember each other!

Chloé weighs 3.3kg. She once weighed 3.5kg but then got sick from an ear infection and dropped a bit of weight to 3.3kg. Oh I cannot even begin to tell you how we adore her, she is our all and everything!!!! Hubby is working from home and takes her 3 times a day for a walkie and she just loves this!!! Cant wait to meet June!!! A while ago I considered getting another puppy from Thea (if she had any), because Chloé just have the most amazing personality, so loveable and she loves to kiss!!! L.o.l. She is our only baby and sleeps in our bed, between hubby and I. See you Saturday Very Happy
