| OMW!! She is really trying to sell her breeding business! All 9 bitches and 2 studs! And look at the state those babies are in And all she cares about is the money, not finding them a reputable person/breeder to go to _________________ |

| It is just so strange to me, for me I cant even think of ever selling a yorkie, it would be the same as someone else selling their kids! But thats just me! |

| A couple of years ago, I had to put my name on a waiting list at a breeder to buy a Yorkie, then they became "fashionable", people started seeing money and then every second person became a breeder!
I have said in many threats that there are too many "breeders" in SA! The quality of these dogs are appauling and now they cannot sell their puppies.
This is a very sad situation in our country, but hopefully these "breeders" will stop with what they are doing and the quality of the Yorkshire Terrier in SA will be increased with responsible breeding.

| I saw that ad today, too. She asking an average of R3200 per dog, which seems like a lot considering the photos posted are not showing what I would consider to be first rate animals in top condition.
And while I understand that she might be selling them due to personal hardship, just looking at the pics made me want to cry...the dogs in the ad did not look well cared for.
What can be done? I don't have R35K to rescue these babies...but if I did, I would. |

I agree with you Janine!! That is exactly why we started the yorkie club! We want to try and make a difference in the quality and health of the Yorkies in SA! How many yorkie owners in SA can decide they would like to participate in a dog show?? Although we all LOVE our babies, the yorkies in SA are not up to standard. All the silver and black colouring looks great, but that's not what they are supposed to look like! And they aren't supposed to be 800g or a little over 1kg! Anyways, I can go on and on about this!! |

| BUt just imagine those poor little dogs being shunted from one home to another, spending their entire lives producing babies. And their condition is horrensous. I was a little nervous to even post that not knowing who they were!
It just upsets me that here we are, people passionate about our dogs and giving them the best...but out there are so many others not living the same kind of life, a life they deserve. there is nothing anyone can do. I find the same thing with people looking to re-home their dogs. they suddenly see the money side of it and it blinds their sense. I know it is hard to re-home an animal and I also know some people get in over their heads but I dont think this ad is right at all.
I hope the new club can pffer some sort of assistance to animals welfare the way it aims to and give some hope to those without any.
people tell me I must "turn a blind eye" to animals on the streets and in need but how can we? we are the only voice they have |

| This is so sad to see!!! Like I said, I actually stopped going to the Gumtree pet section because I did not like what I saw!!! We dont know the circumstances and like Janine said, the novelty is probably wearing off and people are now realizing that its not so easy to sell their pups and are runninginto difficulties caring for all of them and the only way out is to sell!!! I really hope they find a good home. They look really unhappy!!!! _________________ |

| Hopefully, the club will have the ability (and/or the money) to take those dogs away and rehab and rehome them in the future. Then we don't have to be so helpless when things like this happens. But we also want to prevent these situations. It's really sad that so many dogs are unloved by their owners! We should all be proud of ourselves for being so dedicated to our dogs!! And we will make a difference, it'll just take time. In the mean time, we can lead by example _________________ |

| My dogs are like my children. My husband feels the same way. Even my mother in law, who has no pets, thinks of them as granddoggies, especially the Yorkie who is the most personable and interactive.
How people can take a dog, a creature with a full range of emotions, and turn them into objects is beyond me. I'm old and I've had a lot of animals in my time, from birds to cats to chickens to horses to reptiles, and no animal has the emotional repertoire of a dog. How stone-hearted a person must be to reduce these creatures to objects, to ignore their feelings and emotional needs! How can a fully-functioning human being not be moved by their little faces and pleading eyes?
These dogs should be confiscated and the woman seriously investigated by the SPCA. |

| I agree with you sooo much. I could never had children and my yorkies are 100% "humnan" to me! When my 4 year old died in Desember it was the same to me as what it would have been for someone else loosing a child. Some people disagree with me and it is fine, but that is how it is to me. I talk to them like a mommy and they are my kids. I dont even go on holiday becuase I cant take them with. I am going away for one evening this Friday and they will be with my hubby but I am so stressed because I know they will be looking for their mommy and is so used to cuddling with me diuring the night and me looking after them. |

| We are blessed to have a wonderful maid who loves the dogs like we do. They adore her and she lives on our property. So, when we go on holiday, she moves into the house and takes care of the dogs...it is like a holiday for her (big screen TV, jacuzzi, air conditioning!) and the dogs love her to death. Puddin' goes with us if we are going down to Durbs to see MIL, as she thinks Puddin is the greatest thing on 4 legs.
The Maltese do not travel well...Nash is old and creaky, Candy has anxiety issues, so they are best off at home anyway. Without Thandiswe, however, we probably would not go on holiday because the Maltese are rescue dogs and I think putting them in a boarding kennel while we went off to have fun just would not work for them (it sure wouldn't work for me!). I am afraid it would make them feel abandoned all over again, so they are better off at home with their "big sister," Thandiswe!
I am sure some people think I am nuts, but I suspect these are people who have never really opened their hearts and minds to what a dog REALLY is about. |

I totally agree with you Sweetviolet!!! Some of my family also think we are crazy to have 3 dogs and to have the yorkies on the bed and treat them like kids!!! Those are the very people that does not have dogs and that are actually fascinated by the yorkies!!!! When we have kids I will definitely raise them with the dogs so they can learn to be responsible and also enjoy what the dogs contibute to a family!! I simply cannot imagine my life without a dog!!!! _________________ |

| What is so sad is that the SPCA have very little control and authority over most abusive situations Not that they don't want to help - they do - but the law is just not on their side About 2 years ago there was a woman advertising pups on Gumtree - but she would have postings for about six to eight different litters at a time - all different kinds of breeds! The photo's of the pups were horrific - they were all in cages I contacted the SPCA and while they wanted to help they said there wasn't anything they could do unless they found the pups on her property and found the conditions to be abusive! They did go do an inspection of her property, but they weren't allowed to arrive with out telling her - so of course she knew they were coming, & when they arrived there were no pups on the property I contacted her too & told her just how I felt........... but she clearly had no guilty feeling or remorse & day after day there would be new postings of these poor little pups in cages! She openly admitted she was a puppy broker (sells pups on a commision for others) and told me she was doing so well out of it that she had even given up her day job because she was making better money out of selling pups There are some seriously sick people out there! I just wish the SPCA were given more authority to prevent these horrific situations |
