PostSubject: Yorkie Concussion   Sat Oct 09, 2010 1:40 pm

Gabbie (8 month old puppy) trapped herself in our bedroom today, and I opened the door on her! I think it gave her quite a WHAP! A little while later, she was very off-balance. I have given her a bit of cortisone to help with any swelling. She is sleeping in a little cage now, so I am praying that it's just a minor injury. I don't think she got hit that hard, but I would rather be safe than sorry. Losing Gucci was hard enough this year! I just can't imagine losing another baby...

Please pray for the little one and that she'll recover fully & quickly!!

For your info...here are signs of concussion

-dizziness, lack of coordination
-enlarged pupils
-nausea (sometimes)
-less vocal (doesn't bark)
-seizures or tremors

Watch your yorkie closely for any of these symptoms! They are so fragile, and the slightest bumps can hurt them. The sooner the treatment, the better.

Gabbie's reflexes are still okay. She responds to noises and follows my finger. She drank about 25mL of water, which was good. I would have been very worried if she wouldn't drink anything. The cortisone has helped with the slight shaking. After her nap, I think she'll be okay and I'll give her another 2,5mg dose of cortisone tonight.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear about Gabbie's accident and possible concussion. I hope she is going to be okay - you seem to have everything under control. And I agree, it's a great sign that she is taking fluids.

Praying for little Gabbie Crying or Very sad

Sigh of relief!! Good news! The cortisone and a long (confined) nap was just what was necessary. She's back to her old self already, jumping and playing with Bella. She gave me quite a scare, still going to give her another 2,5mg of cortisone before she goes to bed....just to make sure there's no swelling in the head. She must get a good night's sleep. I love you

Gotta be so careful around the house with these small ones! You never know what corner they're going to pop out of!

Thanks for prayers! Very Happy

Thanks! She's sitting on the back of the couch chewing on her toy now. Looks a lot like your little one in the photo Megs!

Now....gotta make the appt for her to get some teeth pulled. Two of her bottom teeth didn't want to fall out. Bummer, more vet bills. geek

Enjoy the day!! Hope it's nice & sunny over in PE....cloudy/overcast here in CT.

Surprised

Hi Jenny!!!

Wow!! Glad all is ok with Gabbie now!!! I know what you mean!!! Mika and Ciara can also be so wild at times!!! Sometimes they chase each other and run under our bed and I can hear Ciara knock her head, but I can get hold of her because she runs wildly and chases Mika!!! Thanks for the info!!! I will keep an eye out for those symptoms if one of mine knocks or bumps a head!!!!
