Calvin again!!! He decided that he was a Basset Hound and followed his nose and ran away from me while we were walking around on the site. We couldn't find him anywhere! We live on a type of smallholding and we called security to check everybody as they left because I was paranoid that someone had stolen him. (Naturally, everybody has fallen in love with him since we moved in on the weekend)
Then my brain started going into overdrive and I was convinced that the eagles that nest by the river had taken him for their supper! Eventally, by process of elimination, my husband figured out that he must have gone into the 10 000m2 field next to us, and, of course, there is an electric fence between us and the field and a just-big-enough gap under the gate for Calvin to fit through. We managed to get security to open the gate and off we went bush-wacking for 30 mins looking for my naughty boy.
Eventually, Jeff heard some russeling under a bush and there he was! He was too scared to come out because he thought he was in trouble and would get shouted at.
I am so so so happy to have him back safe and sound. One lucky doggy is getting steak tonight!

Wow - that must have been so awful! When my little Layla was a pup we thought she was lost. It was her dinner time & we called her & called her - but she didn't come! We searched every room in the house & we searched every inch of the garden. When there was just no where else to search we started searching the roads & knocking on neighbours doors. Our property is 100% yorkie proof so I knew she couldn't have got out on her own, but my mind was going crazy - what if someone came through the gate & she slipped past them? Then I wondered if maybe someone had jumped over the wall & stolen her! At 11pm I was still walking all over our area - crying my eye's out & calling out her name! Just before midnight we decided to search the house again........... & that's when we found her......... curled up in a pile of blankets in the cupboard! Oh the relief! cheers

Wow Dominique!!!! I can imagine how you must have felt!!!!! These yorkies like playing tricks on us!!!! Mika does the same thing. Just goes quiet and when we look for him and call him he does not come!!!! We have to search the whole house and will find him under a bed or chewing bark in the sand outside!! I am also paranoid because there is a farm just behind us and I am sure there are eagles during the day!! At night there is a huge owl that sits on the roof tops too!!! affraid My nerves are also shot!!!

On Saturday when we were in Elim (near Bredarsdorp) and Ciara managed to slip out. Mika was standing by the gate and looking at me and looking at the gate and I knew she must have gone through it!!! When my husband ran outside she was halfway up the street almost out of sight!!! If we had been a minute later she might not have heard him or a car cold have knocked her!!! Crying or Very sad I dont even want to think about it!!!!!

That must have been terrible. It's my worst fear for my dogs too, especially with June. I know that Cash will never let someone catch him and he is clever enough to find his way home. But June is such a softie, she will let someone pick her up and take her away! And so many people have told me that I should be careful with her because she could easily be stolen.

I'm very glad that you all found your doggies!! They sure know how to give us a fright!
