Storm was also like that when he was growing up, but now at 7yrs old he is calmness itself and its Mika that is over active!!!! Cesar is really good I must say!!!! I think I ned him for Mika That pup just bites anything and everything!!! I sprayed the hairspray onto the skirting edges, but he just happily bites away as if there is nothing on!!!! He is now biting the wooden drip wrack thats infront of the bath that you step on when you get out!!!!! Dont know what to do now??? _________________ |

| They can be so naughty Val. Tammy also loves biting the skirtings. If I tell her to stop she just looks at me for a while and carry on! |

| Are you offering him something better to chew on? I always tell them No in a firm tone and then redirect the attention towards a suitable toy. We always have hooves lying around and if the puppy (foster) bites something, I tell her no and give her a hoof. Then she happily chews on that instead. Maybe that would help you too? _________________ |

| I only have the squeeky toys and a rubber bone. I do that as well, but once he is bored with the toy....he goes back there!!!!! He seems to love wood as that is what he is chewing on at home and also the bark in the garden outside. Is it maybe the taste of the wood?? Like I said before he also chews our fireplace logs??? _________________ |

| Bitter bite (what humans use to stop them from biting their nails) is a great thing to put on things that you don't want your yorkies to chew on. Rubber toys are ok, but they don't taste so good so my yorkies only play with them for a short while & then loose interest. Mine love fluffy toys - but I choose fluffy toys very carefully so there are no bits on the toys that can come off & choke the yorkies. Hooves are great - my yorkies just love them! I have hooves all over the house, & every few weeks I go on a hoove search - collect them all up & bin them, then replace them with new ones. They are very affordable. Some of my yorkies love it when I put a little bit of peanut butter inside the hoof - keeps them busy and entertained for ages. |

| A Pet's Life stocks the Bitter Bite: http://www.apetslife.co.za/detail.asp?c=1&s=14&t=130&p=4301&x=0&afl=13. Definitely try the hooves, Val. They chew on the hooves for hours and they like the taste (even though it makes their breath smell). If there is one thing I would recommend for anyone with a dog who loves to chew, I would recommend the hooves. They last forever, they aren't dangerous and they are incredibly cheap. You can buy a pack of 6 for about R15! And you can fill them with peanut butter, kong stuffin' or a mixture you make yourself. I make a liver and oats filling which I freeze inside the hoof. They loves these and it keeps them busy for hours. When the filling is finished, they continue to chew the hoof _________________ |

| Rawhide is dangerous! Please read this article: http://www.askabreeder.com/?q=node/247
Rather try hooves or ostrich/beef/pork sinews. They are in the same price range, but they don't pose a danger to your babies. _________________ |

| Thanks Marilize. I did not know this. My breeder told me to give them rawhide can you believe. I think many people dont know this, because they sell it al over at pet shops and food stores. |

| I know! It's incredible that so many people are using rawhides when there is a big risk involved. The manufacturers of the rawhide should at least put a warning on the packaging or stop manufacturing the product! I didn't know about the rawhides either - I always gave them to my dogs. Then one day, June got a swollen piece stuck in her throat. If I wasn't there at the time, she would have choked and suffocated. Needless to say, I've never bought any rawhide again. They love the hooves more anyway _________________ |

| I am going to go and buy hooves immediatly! I would feel better in any way bacause I was always worried about a piece of rawhide getting stuck in their throats. I always took it away when it bacame small. |

| The hooves are really awesome. They're dirt cheap and you can put all kinds of treats in the hoof, like peanut butter and kong stuffing. It keeps them busy for hours and there is no danger at all. Plus, they can last for a very long time _________________ |

| so funny , just went to the shop to go and buy some hooves. When I got back they were very happy but Lindie(maltese) suddenly also wanted one, so she stole one and I had to go all the way back to get one more. What one would not do for our babies! Now everyone is happy! |

| Lol, it happens! Yesterday, June decided that she didn't want the hoof she had, she wants the one the foster puppy was chewing. So, she sat and whined the whole time. Cash and my sister's lab also gets a bit aggressive. Dogs tend to get aggressive when they are chewing things. I find that it helps them to stick with their own hoof if there is something inside it. They always seem to think that the other hoof tastes better until you make them all taste the same, lol. A thin spread of peanut butter inside the hoof usually does the trick. How aggressive are they with each other? If you are worried, be strict with them to discourage the behaviour. Give them the hooves and let them chew as long as they behave. As soon as they start fighting over one, take everything away. Then try again later. Do this again and again until they get the point: if we fight about one thing, no one gets anything. The hooves are much more exciting for them to chew, so they will get jealous. You just need to discipline them and show them how they should behave. _________________ |
