I think this could maybe be a breeder who wanted to see how he turns out as a stud before selling him. I could be wrong but the name and area sounds familiar!

So he might not be breeding standard and he is being given away??? Thats not nice!!!! He is only 6 months old. Is that not too soon to determine if he will be good for breeding??

Perhaps this breeder is in the same situation that I am in. Today I got a phone call from a lady that bought a male pup from me. She wants me to help find a new home for him because he is not fitting in to their life style! Of course this made me really sad, but as the breeder of the pup I must try find him a home, and not just any home - but the BEST home. This pup was born on the 26th November 2009 so he is almost 10 months old. Below is a photo of him when he was 7 weeks old. The other photo is his Mom, Chloe. She is such a stunning girl, I call her my giant teddy bear because she is my biggest yorkie by far, but she has short legs so she is the same height as most my other yorkies, she just has a much wider & more solid body. She is soooooo friendly and sooooo loving. This lady said she would send me recent photo's of him, but I have not got them yet, but will post photo's as soon as I have. He is a big boy like his mom Chloe. The lady does not want any money for him, & he will go to his new home with his KUSA registration. He has not grown up with any other dogs, so he will need a home where he is an only child - although he is still young and could easily adjust to another dog, as long as the other dog is friendly & relaxed. So just wanted to ask you all to please keep your eye's and ears open in the search for the right home for him. Thanks.

I think that as sad as it is, at least she has done the right thing and contacted you so you know where he will end up.

Thanks so much for all your help with this. I have posted the picture that they sent of him below which admittedly is not the greatest. His registered name is Teddy but he is being called Charlie. From what we can see in the picture, he looks a lot like his Mom, Chloe.

Thanks Val. I spoke to the lady who was interested in taking Charlie, she is a lovely lady but I don't think Charlie will be the right boy for her. I really would like him to go to some one who already has a yorkie or has owned yorkies before! Or should I say some one who is "already owned by a yorkie" or has "been owned by a yorkie before!" LOL! Charlie has been quite neglected, he has had no doggy companions to play with & his human mom & dad are at work all day - & Charlie has been left home alone! No So he might take some time to adjust to a new home and needs a human mom that has lots of time for him.

Val, a lot of breeders do this because if you do selective breeding you keep the puppies that look like they'll be up to standard for breeding, but you can only determine this from about 5-7 months of age, maybe even later than that. The reason for this is because yorkies change colour so often. And you also need to determine their temperament, movement etc. etc. These things are hard to determine when the puppies are young. And I know from speaking to show breeders that if you're interested in buying a show quality yorkie, they'll also only sell you the dog at around 6-7months of age to see whether or not the dog is in fact show quality!

I know it sounds cruel but I know in my own experience, you can't keep ALL of them!! I'd rather send them to a new home where they'll be the only "child" or one of only two or three and get special attention and care, rather than it staying by the breeder and not getting all the love and attention it should!! Hope you understand Wink

It makes sense now. Im just one of those people that can never give my dog away!!!

A good thing I am not going into breeding!!!

Breeding sounds very complicated then!!! There are lost of things that has to be considered.

Thanks for the info!

Mike, if you need someone to work with this little guy to get him ready for a new home, let me know. I foster for welfare regularly and have a lot of experience getting neglected dogs rehabilitated to live in a normal household. Then you could also get a much better handle on what his issues are and what needs to be worked on.
Then when he is ready, you can start looking for a suitable home. Rather than have him be passed from home to home because of some issues.

It's just an idea, but I'd happily take the boy in for a while to help him adjust. It might increase his chances to find a great home. PM me if you're interested Smile

Hi Marlize. Thank you very much for your kind offer to take Charlie in. I think that would be a really great idea to get a better understanding of exactly what his needs are and what home would be best for him. May turn out that he loves other dogs and would be better in a home with other dogs, rather than in a home as a only child??? But from what I have been told this poor boy has never been beyond the walls of his home Sad The good thing he is still young and might addapt more easily then an older yorkie would. I will chat to his current owner and see if she would be happy with this. I would love to bring him in to my own home until a forever home is found for him, but I think he would be very overwhelmed here with my 11 yorkie kids! LOL! If she agree's how soon would you be able to take him? Yorkie regards, Mel
