Has anyone ever tried this brand? They distribute in the Western Cape, Gauteng and the Free State. I haven't tried their food, but for those who want to feed raw food but can't find a supplier, why not check them out: www.dogmatters.co.za

Why don't you email Belinda and find out if they deliver in Durban? PE wasn't on their list either so I sent her an email to ask and they do. I just have to place the order with her and pay her & then there is a pick up point to fetch the food from.

That's wonderful, Megs! While I was giving my dogs breakfast this morning, I realized again how nice it is to give them raw food. It just feels so natural and easy... and seeing them chomp away on bones and meat (like dogs are supposed to) is great! I love watching them eat whole chicken necks, but the bigger dogs definitely have it easier with the whole pieces. I swear my sister's labrador swallows chicken wings whole!

Let us know how it goes Smile Are you going to switch her in one go? Some recommend a gradual switch, but a quick switch is also perfectly fine. She might have a bit of diarrhea or she may vomit - it just takes their tummies a day or two to adjust from the dry kibble.

I've been thinking of how I'm going to do it & decided that I'll just do the full switch and they must just deal with it. Belinda also suggested a full switch and a positive attitude Very Happy
Molly won't have a problem with it (she eats anything) but Zoey might but she will learn that its all shes getting and it's only down for 15 mins so if she's eating she must eat!
I also thought I'd only start on Tuesday morning so we can see how the tummies do during the day instead of waking up to a mess. Luckily Molly sleeps in her crate so she barks if she wants to go out so it will just be Zoey that we have to deal with.

My dogs started the food yesterday, Russ gave them some while I was portioning it yesterday, Zoey wasn't at all impressed with it & lifted her nose, Molly gulped it down and wanted more! I took some on my finger (what we'll do for our babies, coz boy does it look gross) opened her mouth with lots of difficulty and shoved some in, turns out she likes it too and then wanted more! The only thing I'm struggling with is the fact that she eats when she wants to & not on command & I can't leave the food out all day so I'm not sure how to get around this one but will just keep trying!

Great, Megs! I'm glad that they decided that they like it Smile

Zoey, who doesn't like to eat when you want her to, can easily learn to accept meal times. You just need to be consistent and firm (like a good leader Cool ). How many meals do you feed her? If you feed her two meals (breakfast and dinner), try to always feed them at the same time. Set a time that's easy for you and then stick to it. Dogs really thrive on routine and as soon as she understand the routine, she will be easier to feed.

Say you feed them at 07h00 and then again at 19h00 - always at the same time. Put the bowls down and leave them down for 15 minutes. After that time has passed, pick them up and feed the same food at the next meal.

If you are consistent, she will learn very quickly - she'll realize that you control the food and that she has to eat when you tell her to. This is also a leadership issue: the leader controls the resources like food. So you might even find that she is more obedient when she accepts the new situation. Good luck! Don't let her win Smile

They basically get fed at the same time every day because our nanny feeds them when she comes in so around 8:30 and then I normally feed them at 7 after we've had supper. Zoey knows that it's supper time when we've finished eating and will have a bite and then leave it and then wants to eat just before bed time again. I'm just going to have to be consistent and firm with her, last night I took away the kibble that stays on my bed and the BARf after about 15 mins and then she woke me up for food later in the night!

That's great, Megs. Mealtimes should be the only time when she gets food for the next couple of weeks. Later on, you can start giving her treats in between, but you don't want to spoil her appetite now. Keep doing what you are doing and don't give in. She'll learn very quickly that she has to eat or go hungry if you are consistent Smile

She's a really nice lady, she asked for photos of the dogs so will send her those at some stage but I want to record Molly eating and then licking her bowl, it's so funny because we feed her in the kitchen and from my room I can hear her licking the bowl for about 5 mins after she's finished Smile

Megs, How are your dogs enjoying it????

I only ask because Sharon just sms'd me (shame she has tried to phone me as well) and says....HOORAY!!!...they deliver in Durban RIGHT BY MY HOUSE! I am just confused. Is it a set diet or do you choose what you want to feed ie: what meats etc? and Megs what does a month cost you for your 2 dogs??

Im keen to try it!

I've just ordered my second batch. Costs R300 for the 2 but Molly eats 150g per meal and Zo only 30g. If I remember correctly there's something on the website that says 3-5kg's costs R100 per month. I have them on the beef and chicken breasts and then we alternate the packets so for 3 days they on beef and then on chicken breasts for 3 days.
I really have never seen Zoey so excited for meal times before, she really loves it and goes to lick her bowl after aswell Smile
