PostSubject: Biewer A'La Pom Pon Breed Standard   Sat Aug 21, 2010 9:34 am

I get so many questions about the Biewer A'La Pom Pon and what it should look like, what is allowed and what not, so I thought that I would post it.

Biewer A’La Pom Pon Breed Standard.

Characteristics and Temperament: The Biewer A’La Pom Pon is elegant and self assured with confidence. A sensitive and intelligent dog whose only purpose is to serve man as a companion. They are lively, determined and playful. They are quick to learn with consistent training but can be stubborn. They are brave and generally get along with other household pets. They will always alert you to strangers and because of its active personality but small fragile body is not recommended as pets for very young children. They get very attached to their human family and may become very unhappy if left alone for long periods of time. The Biewer A’La Pom Pon has a need to constantly be in the presence of its owner. Because the dog will follow its owner from room to room, owners often find they have to look before they step. Their agility also means that they will leap on and off beds and couches several times their own height, presenting a risk of injury. They will insist on sleeping directly next to their owners at night. The Biewer A’ La Pom Pon is highly sensitive to its owners moods and will know they are about to be left alone even before you have reached for your keys.

Size: Small compact well proportioned body.

Weight: 2.5kg to 3.5kg.

Height: 18cm to 24cm at the withers.

Head: Rather small and flat on top, not too prominent or round in skull.

Muzzle: Not too long with a black nose.

Eyes: Dark in color, lustrous with an intelligent look. Not too prominent and looking directly forward with dark eyelids. A small amount of white showing in the inner corners.

Mouth: The upper teeth should fit closely overlapping the lower teeth in a perfect scissor bite. No over or under bite. Lips must be black.

Ears: Small, V-shaped, carried erect, not too far apart. Heavy big floppy ears are not allowed.

Forequarters: Well laid shoulders, legs straight, well covered with pure white hair. No color except white below the elbow allowed.

Body: The body is very compact and well-proportioned with a level top line.

Hindquarters: Legs quite straight when viewed from behind, moderate turn of stifle. Well covered with pure white hair. No color except white is allowed on the legs.

Feet: Round with black or white nails.

Coat: Hair on body moderately long, glossy; fine silky texture ¾ down the body to floor length.

Color: The color placement on the Biewer A’La Pom Pon is very specific and has a set color placement. The head must have three colors Black/Blue – White – Gold in good symmetry. Only two colors on the head is considered a fault. Only Black/Blue and White is allowed on the body with no color accept white below the elbow on the legs with a white tip on the tail. A solid white or black tail is considered a fault.

Tail: Full length tail with a white tip, carried a little higher than level of back. Proudly carried curled over the back in a plume when active and alert. (Not to be penalized for dropping tail when standing.)

Grooming: Very demanding. Biewer A’La Pom Pon’s needs daily grooming by brushing and weekly baths. The hair is kept out of the eyes by a top knot. The hair on the ears should be trimmed and loose hair removed from the ear canal.

Exercise: This breed is suitable for a flat or small home. They do need daily walks or vigorous playtime.

Health Issues: The Biewer A’La Pom Pon is generally healthy and strong if cared for correctly. They do need to have their teeth checked at about 8 months of age as they may retain some of their puppy teeth. It is not recommended to walk a Biewer A’La Pom Pon on a leash around its neck as their tracheas may be fragile and a harness should be used instead. Indiscriminate/Unethical breeding may result in numerous health issues.

This should answer some questions about what is the difference between a Parti Yorkie and a Biewer a'La Pom Pon! Thanks Amoureux!

Thanks, I sure hope so because as I get older I forget Embarassed to mention some stuff when talking on the phone and now I can just direct people here to our wonderful forum.

I do believe that people have the right to breed whatever breed they fancy but pointing out the difference in the breeds should make it easier for people to decide which breed suits them best.

Yes you're right Amoureux!! When I went to the show this weekend with Bugatti, the people went crazy!!! Everyone wanted to know what breed he is and where they come from etc. etc. I think we should print a small pamphlet with all the info and just hand it out to people with a smile! lol! But we love bragging about our babies so it's all good! Smile

Very well explained Alet! WELL DONE! This must've taken a while to do. After hearing about the show Jeanique went to, I need to start looking up some timetables and grab Magda by the elbow and we need to take Kita and Sh'Zen to a show or 2 for some "marketing and promotion" or is it just bragging....
