| When we got Mika he was on RC puppy pellets. We are still keeping him on that for now. Last night my husband felt that he wanted to give Mika some chicken (cooked) as with the other dogs. I warned him not to give too much but he put the food in Mika's dish and OMW did he gobble down his food. Within minutes his stomach started swelling. It was rock hard. We panicked, but called the Vet first and they confirmed that he swallowed too much air while eating. They told us to wait a little and if it does not go down, to bring him in. It went down quickly again I have never had a dog that did that before. Was it maybe too soon for us to give him chicken?? It was the first other food besides the RC that he is used to. _________________ |

| That is so weird! I also gave Tammy and Misty cooked chicken with brown rice and mixed veggies on Saterday (Misty only had a tablespoon full of chicken). They enjoyed it so much but Misty threw everything up afterwards. I did not give it again but feel so sorry for them, my maltese eat chicken and rice every night. They are suddenly not very eager to eat the RC puppy anymore. |

| I think the problem is that they enjoy fresh food a lot more than the RC and when they get it, they tend to go overboard. It is also natural for them to vomit or have diarrhea because their tummies aren't used to the new food.
The natural food is a lot wetter and richer than the kibble. The kibble absorb and kill a lot of the natural digestive enzymes. The natural food then need these enzymes and natural bacteria and the lack of it causes digestive problems. This is why I recommend giving a dog some probiotics when switching from kibble to a natural food.
Chicken is good for puppies. It is pure lean protein. They need a lot of protein. They aren't getting it from the RC. RC supplies energy from starches, not the protein building blocks that these puppies' bodies need.
Think about it this way, if you ate crackers, dried corn, maize meal, etc. since you were born, wouldn't you jump head first into a plate of chicken and veggies? _________________ |

| It was weird!!! But I think he just ate too fast!!! He literally swallowed the food instead of chewing it.
We will be more careful when giving other food to Mika!!! That is also why I did not want to give other food yet because they get spoiled so quickly and they dont eat their pellets. _________________ |

| Trigger is the same with home cooked food - he doesnt lift his head from the bowl until it's finished and his tummy looks like a soccer ball afterwards. but he is used to home cooked food so he doesnt get sick. i always mix in a SMALL amount of kibble for crunch and for their teeth.
In fact he is so greedy with it that sometimes the only reason he stops for air is because he has to go potty before he has finished! I think it goes straight in one end and straight out the other! Whereas Taylor will pick out a piece of something she likes and take it outside and chew it properly and come back!
I think small doses with no competition from the other dogs might help him slow down! |

| We keep him seperate when he eats. But you are right, he gobbles his food without lifting his head and when he stops its o wee or poo and then he is back to the dish!!! I never had a dog like that before!!!! _________________ |

Lyk my ons sal Mika se kos moet weg vat van hom af, shame!!!

_________________ |
