Kristin, I think you mentioned this on a thread before, but Thea told me that I should have Mika neutered so that he dont lift his leg.

But at what age do you have it done

Val, they mature at a different rate but it is usually around 8 months of age that you need to neuter a boy depending on his weight. I know some vets, like mine, will not neuter or spay a puppy if it weighs less than 1.7kg it can be dangerous if they do.

Unless I have a girl in heat my Schatz will still squat like a girl and he is three years old. So some do and some don't mark.

Val, Pepper will be 7 months next month and he still squats like a girl! However, when I take him out for a walk he tends to lift his leg but maybe once or twice. I was also very worried he would lift his leg to everything but he doesn't. So I think, like Amoureux said, some do and some don't.
I'm getting Pepper neutered in December, he'll be 11 months but he already knows how to lift his leg so I wonder if he'll still do this?

I didn't neuter Cash until 10 months! I had to look up the date in his booklet and he was a little less than 10 months before I had him neutered. He had already started lifting his leg and I couldn't let him walk into a stranger's house because he would mark every chair, couch and cabinet.

The marking helped me to potty train him He is the most stubborn dog I've ever met and until about 6 months, he would potty anywhere he liked. I was clueless and I didn't train him properly. When he started marking, I would take him for walks to potty and if I wanted it to be quick, I just went to the nearest tree and he would lift his leg!

I regret not neutering him earlier. He doesn't mark anything in my house (except when June came home), but I have to watch him at a strange place. He never stopped marking, his urge just isn't that strong anymore.

A big reason why I had him neutered was because he wanted to escape the yard and run with other dogs constantly. He had some aggression issues, never towards me or close family, but towards other dogs, cats and strange people.

Neutered dogs are so much nicer and they love being home with their family. And it improves your chances of having a happy, peaceful and fun home.

Humping is often a sign of dominance and correct me if I am wrong, but puppies do this to each other sometimes? I think he is probably just playing around and trying things out.

If he continues to do it or it becomes a frequent thing, you can just tell him "No" and take the toy away.

But I don't think you need to be worried that he is maturing too early. The humping, at this point, is just playing and maybe a bit of dominance. I think it happens more when you already have a dog of the opposite sex and it's just instinct for him to try it out. Just gently discourage him and have him neutered around 8 months

I would remove the toy, but he is doing it to my foot while Im wearing the slipper My husband sold Mika last night and told him that Im his wife and Mika must becareful But ag....he is just so cute. I will start being firm with him!! He probably mistakes my slipper for another puppy or something???

Bugatti also humped my arm, his teddy and the other dogs and puppies yesterday! It definitely is dominance! My females do it to each other as well after they've had a litter or been on heat.

Like Marilize says, with a new puppy it's better to discourage this behaviour or take away whatever it is that he is humping! (Amoureux gave me this advice yesterday!)

When I got Pepper he used to hump his teddy so I took it away from him. I read somewhere that you should pretend to growl at them, show teeth and give them a little pinch to frighten them. In that way you show you're the leader of the pack. I tried it and so far it's worked, he hasn't humped in a long time!

You got the best advice from the ladies above. I would just like to add that they do not know when they are allowed and when not so humping your guests legs are not on and you should stop it as soon as possible. It will in no way prevent a boy from doing his job one day if you were a breeder then instinct takes over and very little will stop them.

Trigger wees like a girl still but he is only 4 months old.

As for humping he was doing it at 7 weeks! I believe it's normal because they are growing and have hormones. He hasn't done it to us again (he tried once only!) but every now and again I catch him humping Taylor and she thinks it's fabulous I still tell him off for it though and he always looks a little upset with me I get filthy looks from Taylor too as if to say "who the hell are you to tell me who to date"! lol!
