I saw a link on Gumtree (good old Gumtree!) for Yorkies puppies, at a HELL of a price in my opinion (R3500 for males and R5000 for females) that are registered through some company called Canine SA.

any idea who they are and what they are all about? at that price I was surprised they are not KUSA registered even with all the KUSA issues we bring up.

I never heard about them yet. Had a look at their website now. Seems like a new registration company, but never heard about it!

Never heard of them and looked at their website and I might be wrong but it does not seem as if they regulate who is breeding what and that is what is needed, not just another company taking people's registration fees and not doing anything with it for the dogs. JMHO!!!!!

That was what scared me! the people selling these pups on gumtree say they "have papers" from Canine SA but that means nothing much to me. all it says is the parents arent registered with KUSA so they have found an alternative here. at R5000 a puppy?????

I think in this case im picking more on the seller of these puppies for their rates than Canine SA. Mommy has floppy ears so how well bred is she?? Perhaps, just like we often talk about, someone has taken the initiative to change the rules? I would like to see the outcomes of this though like Amoureux said. what do they do with the fees?

Well I stand corrected and apologize. After writing my reply I decided to give Canine SA a call. They do things different than KUSA for one they do inspect the homes of breeders.

Wow, that's awesome! Finally, a registration body who cares about the dogs. Do you think it would be a good idea to make the switch?

Do they inspect the homes only or also the quality of the dogs being registered?

i want to know though - if we registered with an affiliate like this, where would it put a breeder in terms of showing etc? would the showring recognise it? or perhaps register at both? i dont know if that is possible

That sounds great!!! But how do one register your dog with them if the dog is already KUSA registered?

He told me that they will just take over the registration of dogs registered with any other registration body and I do not think that you will be able to show at a show that is run under KUSA judges with a CanineSA dog. It is still very confusing he is sending me some information and as soon as I get it I will post it for you all to see.

TaylorWoods, if you want to participate in shows at this stage, you'll have to be registered with KUSA. Until Canine SA is big enough to host shows.
