| I am young and ambitious with a passion for animals and last night i was thinking how BLESSED I am to be the proud owner of 2 Yorkies. I have had various breeds growing up but none have ever melted my heart the way this breed does. From my days on Yorkie Talk i often picked up that overseas they have many Yorkie rescue institutions that deal only with Yorkies. I wondered if there is such a place in SA? when i looked for a dog i had my heart set on a Yorkie and i looked at the SPCA's but never found one to adopt. but by the look of things, not everyone out there sees them as a blessing but rather as a money making scheme. Im in no position to start something like that (I would be evicted immediately!) but perhaps one day the passionate ones like us on this site should consider it. to nurse them back to health and find them proper homes where they are loved and safe would bring such joy to my heart |

| I agree completely, it would be great to have a yorkie rescue. There used to be one in Jo'burg, but I think it closed down. We have a lot of plans for the future of yorkies in SA and we are definitely looking into establishing a rescue scheme. It's going to take a while, but I will keep you posted I've volunteered and fostered for many welfares and I feel very passionate about this. Maybe some of the great members of SAY would then be willing to foster some of the doggies back to health! _________________ |

| I would assist anytime. I also wondered if there were Yorkie recue's in SA!!! They had it on Oprah once. They rescued over 40 yorkies from this puppy mill. It was so sad to se all the dogs cooped up in cages, peeing and pooping on each other cause they were locked up all the time. Their fur was so matted that you could not even see their faces properly. it was a horrible site to see and yet, there are places out there!!! They also rescued one yorkie from a lady that bought the dog for her toddlers. They found the dog almost lifeless behind the couch. The kids shook it around so much that the dog had been paralysed!!! . I was siting in tears and andger watching it. How could people allow that!!!!!!! _________________ |

| Well I'm so glad I didn't see that episode! I'd be so furious, it makes me sick to see how a human being can treat an animal in that way |

| Sorry Taylor..... !!! Did not mean to do that. Was just sharing what I saw. Luckily there was a happy ending for the dogs as people adopted them and someone is looking after the paralysed yorkie too. But things like this happens out there!!! _________________ |

| It's sad hey? Here we are with our doggies that rule our lives and there are millions of others out there in need of a home and health care (yorkies and all others too). Luckily there are a few people out there who are willing to help though |

| I took in a little rescue boy Bee-Bob once that was on his way to be put down he was in such a bad way. He weight only 700gr at one year old and was a normal standard size Yorkie. He could not walk properly still had all his baby and adult teeth and had to be hand fed as he was to weak to stand and eat by himself. Well to cut a long story short. After taking him to a specialist in JHB and R4000-00 further I was told their was nothing they could do for him and that he was shaken as a baby and that a little bone in his neck was broken. He was to small and to weak to operate on. I nursed him back to health and had him for 5 days short of a year weighing in at 1.7kg when the worst happened, he tripped on a carpet and could not move. He was paralized completely and I had to send him over the rainbow. Why am I telling you this. Because I have so much respect for you guys that are thinking about a rescue for the Yorkies I could NEVER go through that again and people need to realize that these little dogs and children are not a good idea as he came from a very wealthy family WITH CHILDREN and maybe now you will understand my passion for educating the public about Yorkies. |

| That is sad Amoureux!! Is the pic of him?? I suppose it will be sad if you try everything to help the dogs but there is nothing that can be done?? The best is to educate people before things like this happen and it will not be easy to stop this from happening. Some people claiming to be breeders will sell their pups to anyone who has money!!! _________________ |

| Yes. That is him in the picture and thank you. The hardest part of doing something like that is the total feeling of not doing enough. You feel so useless. I always tell people whether you have children or not you can not keep them away from children for ever, your children might be well behaved but is their friends that come to visit so the only solution I can see is to breed puppies of good solid sizes to make the risk less. |

| Is that picture of him? Shame, he is too gorgeous.
i would want to do it once i am financially able to help in every way and do what needs to be done. They are so cute as puppies and people think because they are small they are easy but they really aren't. they have health issues, can be naughty as ever and take a lot of time and maintenance.
my boyfriend's cousin got one for her birthday (which is when i fell in love with the breed) and they paid R9000 for her from JHB and just gave her away when she was about 4 months old because she kept running out. instead of training the dog and securing the yard...i was so incredibly angry. Actually they had 2 because right after they got her they got a male and gave them both away. When they see Taylor they always beg me to breed her and let them have a puppy and it took a lot but I told them no because even if i ever bred, i would never let my puppy go to a home where they are forgotten about as soon as they grow a little.
in my opinion Taylor is even more charming now as an adult than as a puppy but most people just want a cute little ball of fluff until it pees on the carpets and chews their Jimmy Choos
makes me think of those sad pictures you see in movies of the puppy with a red ribbon on it's neck under the chrismas tree and then child who isn't interested. |

| OH MY GOODNESS!! They would for sure not get one of my puppies. You are right I like mine more as adults, maybe because they never outgrow their puppy ways. |

| Wow, that makes me so mad! How do you just give up on a living, breathing animal? If you can find a better home for the dog, great! But you'll never really know. And by buying a puppy, I think you should sign a contract stating that you will do everything in your power to keep the dog. When Cash was about 5 months old, he was uncontrollably naughty. He'd pee on my bed, on my freshly-washed pillows, on my clothes, everywhere. He'd go after the rubbish bin and spread the contents all over my room, my bed, etc. It was terrible! And I knew that I had to do something. Otherwise, I would have to give him away. So, I took half of my monthly allowance and invested in a clicker training class (after loads of research). I ate stale bread for a month to afford the class, but we did it and I am so happy that we did!! It was the best decision I ever made. He still goes after the bin when he is mad at me, but he knows that I am on his side now and I can't imagine my life without the brat _________________ |

| I love them as puppies too of course But she has such a character as an adult! She has never grown up! probably never will! Although I have noticed a change in her since her first heat. she is calmer now and more serious about life. Her manners have just improved drastically too! But then out of nowhere pops the puppy ways |

| I admit that these little dogs are not quite the norm, but I havent found mine to be THAT naughty. Triggers toilet habits were taught by the breeder and we are out-teaching them! SLOWLY!
I find them to be very intelligent (maybe too clever for their own good sometimes!) and listen really well. both of mine know when i say out they move their little behinds out the door. they never jump up when we eat and Trigger has learned "sit" by 10 weeks old. so for me they are exceptional.
I watch that program on Natioal Geographic called the dog whisperer with Cesar Milan and he ALWAYS says...the dog doesnt need the training, the owner does. |

| http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Pets-dogs-puppies-Kusa-Registered-Miniature-Yorkshire-Puppies-W0QQAdIdZ211812456 I found this add on gumtree now. In one of the pics there is a toddler (+/- 2-3yrs old) Holding a yorkie pup!!!!! This is exactly what we were discussing earlier!!!! _________________ |
