I am DYING to organise a Yorkie meet up/play date in the durban and surrounding area. Or even just to get to know some other owners and where they take their dogs for walks etc because I am very limited at the moment.

I know I would have to put in a lot of thought to it because right now it is just an idea. I think those of us on here should really try and encourage others we might know to join up and grow the groups. There must be plenty of other Yorkie owners out there!

I have not yet had a chance to attend, but a lady I work with has a little male Yorkie and she told me that on the Mount Edgecombe golfcourse near where we work there is a Yorkie meet up and lunch date every Friday. They even drop your dog off afterwards if you are not attending in person!

Ideas?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a Yorkie meet up in Cape Town? marilize, do you perhaps know?? It would be fun to have a get together with yorkies and let them mingle with their own kind. The lady that I got Ciara from unfortunately moved to Potchefstroom. I found it so amazing that when I took Ciara to visit her mommy and daddy she was right at home. The lady had two more pups from other litters. It was amazing to see how they interacted and played together. Ciara would every now and then want to sit on my lap, I suppose just to be assured that I am still there and to show the others that I am her mommy. It would really be nice to have something like that. Not every month, maybe evey 3 months to start with?

Does anyone else know if something like that in the Cape Town area?

I am hoping to be in luck Smile i found an advert on Gumtree for people to join a group of owners of Toy breeds for beach days etc. I know it wont all be yorkie owners but at least it gives me the chance to get them out and about Smile our area is not safe for me to walk alone with 2 small dogs so i battle to get them to palces where they can run around Smile im really hoping it is all legit and above board Smile

They said in their advert that they havent set dates yet and are only looking for members still. im sure it will be ok, but maybe i will take him with Smile it will be at Umhlanga beach so im sure it's all safe Smile Yesterday my fiance asked me what i felt like doing for the day so i said please lets take the dogs to the beach so he told me it will be windy by the time we get there. yesterday must have been the most perfect day in Durban for a while! not a breath of wind but he avoids going to the beach like the plague Sad i dont know why. my poor dogs are so frustrated and need the exercise Sad

That is great Kristin!!!!

I must get in touch with Yorky legacy again. She wanted to do aomethin like this. We are quite a few yorkie owners in Cape Town.

Marilize, what do you say? We just have to find a spot where dogs are allowed as lots of beaches ban dogs.

Great for you, Taylorwoods! I am sure that Taylor and Trigger will love it!

As for a Cape Town meet-up, we definitely have to organize something. I will start looking for suitable places (either a beach that allows dogs or maybe just a park or garden). If anyone knows about a suitable place, let me know.

I love that we are starting to organize meet-ups! Eventually, I want to host an annual SA Yorkies meet-up where we can get speakers, a buffet, some vendors, etc. Nothing too big, just a weekend of yorkie fun. Eventually... Smile

I'll keep you posted and let you know when I find a venue!

I never updated on this! We went! it was my 2 and the girl with the Chihuahua (very noisy and irrtating little rat dog i might add but very cute! snappy though affraid ) and some other people joined us with 4 Jack Russells!

I cant tell you how proud I was of my 2 Smile they were so good and listened so well even with all the distractions around them. they ran and played and socialised Smile Taylor loves ALL dogs and people and even went running up to a HUGE German Shepherd which I just thought OMG! but the people on Umhlanga beach only bring dogs to the beach that are socialised and those that arent are on a lead. so if we see dogs walking towards us on a lead we clip ours on. Mine both sit at my feet when called though and I had no problems.

Trigger lost his temper with this Chihuahua though because he kept yapping at Trigger and nipping his feet and was put in his place very quickly after which he shut his little trap and behaved! lol!

I know they werent all Yorkies but it was awesome to let my dogs play with other dogs and I was really impressed that on neutral territory they were all 100% with each other.

We are going again this sunday - we missed last weekend because of bad weather Sad And better yet, the humans meet and make new friends Smile everyone wins cheers
